Ramadhan Mubarik, Selamat berpuasa and Happy Ramadhan everyone!

My name is Yusuf and I'm from California, USA. I have been teaching in South East Asia for 4 years now, first in central Java Indonesia and then in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Before that I had the exciting experience of teaching in Mauritania, Morocco and Egypt, all of which are beautiful countries with great people and many sights to see.

As a TELL2 mentor I work in Bachok-Pasir Puteh alongside Niamh and Khidar, two really great personalities with tons of knowledge and experience to share. In Bachok I work with 24 teachers in 5 schools, during our interactions we work toward teacher language and pedagogy development in the TEFL context.

I have been a part of the TELL2 program since January 2014, thus far it has been quite the adventure and has enabled me to experience life in the calm and relaxing state of Kelantan. So far I have had the great opportunity to work with some of the most charming and enthusiastic teachers I have ever met, as well as some really bright and energetic students. The TELL2 program has been off to a great start and I'm really looking forward to some awesome adventures in the coming months.

Hi from Niamh

My name is Niamh (Neve) Dunne.  I am 32 years old, from Ireland.  I have been teaching in Asia for almost 8 years now, first in South Korea, then Thailand and nowI have been in TELL programme since 2011.  I previously worked with a lovely bunch of teachers in Kuala Krai and in 2014 I moved to Bachok.  I like living in Malaysia very much, and Kelantan is a beautiful state to work in.  I am very lucky to be working in Bachok, as I love to go to the beach!  The schools I work with are SK Tawang, SK Perupok, SK Pengkalan Chengal, SK Pauh Sembilan and SK  Beris Kubor Besar.

As a mentor, I work with Malaysian English Teachers and increase their confidence in speaking and teaching English.  In our school visits, we do anything, from resource development and co-teaching and demo lessons, to planning lessons and English Days.  In our TPD workshops, we focus on teaching techniques for topics such as phonics, classroom management, storytelling, songs and English events providing a wide range of activity and games to try out in the classroom.  I love to get into the classroom with the pupils for songs, stories and games.

It is always important to keep in mind that everything we do, we do it for the little people!  Our aim is to make learning fun for pupils.  When they are interested in learning and have the opportunity to learn in a fun, interactive way, they will enjoy coming to English lessons.  The teachers in Bachok have been wonderful in welcoming me and I am sure that the 2 years we will spend working along side each other will prove to be a productive and rewarding one!

Keep an eye out for updates of events and news from Bachok-Pasir Puteh soon…..

Welcome!

Hi and welcome to TELL2!

My name is Niamh Dunne and together with my colleagues, Yusuf (Darnell) Liles and Khidar (AB) Abdullah, we are the Bachok-Pasir Puteh (BPP) cluster mentors.   We are working with 15 schools in this area, with the level 1 English teachers, in sub-clusters of 5 schools each.  We focus on language proficiency and teaching proficiency development through school visits and workshops called TPDs.

I am delighted to be working with lovely teachers in SK Tawang, SK Perupok, SK Pengkalan Chengal, SK Pauh Sembilan and SK Beris Kubor Besar.  Yusuf is working nearby at SK Sungai Dua, SK Beris Lalang, SK Tangok, SK Jelawat 2 and SK Pa' Pura.  AB works in Pasir Puteh with SK Kampung Berangan, SK Panggong, SK Padang Pa' Amat, SK Banggol Pa' Esah and SK Bukit Abal.  We have all been made to feel very welcome by all the teachers, headmasters and local PPD officers.

Stay tuned to get to know us all here in BPP a bit better....
